On August 4, 2023, the Indonesian Language Education Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Brawijaya University, conducted a curriculum review agenda in Meeting Room B of the FIB building. This curriculum review was carried out in response to the results of the international accreditation by the Agentur zur Qualitätssicherung an Hochschulen mit Sitz in Köln (AQAS), which required several evaluations of the curriculum. The agenda was attended by the program head, program secretary, faculty members, and invited expert practitioners, including Prof. Ben Arps from Leiden University.
Dr. Eti Setiawati, M.Pd, the Head of the Bachelor’s Program in Indonesian Language Education at FIB UB, explained the results of the AQAS accreditation for the program and outlined the scope of the curriculum review, which included the program’s vision and mission, course descriptions, course distribution, human resources, and the profile of program graduates.
Based on the review conducted by Prof. Ben Arps, who is the Head of the Department of Southeast Asian and Oceanian Languages and Cultures at Leiden University and an expert in Javanese culture, language, and literature, he criticized several aspects, including substance, the learning process, program professionalism, and program outcomes. Furthermore, he specifically highlighted the distinctive features of the program. The Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program was urged to consider the importance of its characteristics or unique features as a distinguishing advantage that sets it apart from other language education programs.
In the closing session, Dr. Eti Setiawati, M.Pd, the Head of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program at FIB UB, expressed gratitude to all those who attended and were involved in this agenda. She also conveyed the great expectations from this event, hoping that the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program can fully meet the revisions required by the AQAS accreditation and that the program can further actualize the potential of its students, creating competent graduates who can make significant contributions to the progress of the nation and Indonesia as a whole.
